The Coffee Corner

All about how to make good coffee and what makes coffee good.

Keurig Single Cup Coffee Maker

Yesterday I talked about the nespresso a capsule based espresso machine. Well today I am going to talk about the Keurig Single cup coffee maker that is built of the same concept.

I think that Keurig machines are basically that same as the nespresso machines based on general principle. Espresso is made by forcing hot water quickly through finely ground and packed coffee, which is basically how both these machines work. Nespresso is a little bit more of an espresso machine whereas the Keurig is an espresso machine that just produces more liquid and perhaps not as fast making it a really watered down espresso AKA Coffee.

I have tried the coffee from the Keurig machine and I have to say that it’s not bad. I would say though if you were accustomed to drinking poorly brewed coffee that you will probably love this machine. It takes all the guesswork out of making coffee. The proportions are all set for you all you have to do is hit the button.

One thing the bugs me about this machine is that you can set it for different sizes of cups. I wonder how that works with the amount of coffee used. Normally you would use more coffee beans to make more coffee but it seems that if you use a little cup it will taste stronger and if you use a bigger cup it will taste weaker. If they wanted to do it right they should really offer capsules that have more coffee in them to facilitate the larger cups of coffee.

I think this machine is great for people who don’t want the mess of cleaning up coffee grounds. Or for people that suck at making coffee and don’t want to deal with it. I have also seen these machines in offices and I think it’s a great idea. No one wants to come into your office and drink coffee that has been sitting on the burner for who knows how long. This offers a fresh cup to people who want it.
