I have heard a lot of talk about rigs, but I really know almost nothing about them. From what I can tell, they go into a ship's upgrade hardpoints and boost certain stats. First of all, can they be removed from a ship after being installed? If your ship gets blasted, can you get your rigs back? Are there any good rigs that help with mining?
