Neon Tetras are very popular fish in tropical aquariums. They are very brightly colored with a blue and red stripe down the entirety of their bodies. They are schooling fish, so make sure to pick up a few when you get them. They move as a mass of fish, turning into a moving rainbow of colors. They make an excellent addition to a community tank.

Unfortunately, they tend to be reasonably expensive, at about $2 for each tiny fish. This makes a good sized school (5 or 6) around $10 total. Still I consider them well worth it for the life and color they add. Their blue stripe is highly reflective, and it will flash in the light as they swim. Its shade changes with the angle the light hits. When you look at them from above, they go to a more yellow-green color. If you look at them from a lower perspective, they turn a deep purple.
Just don't get TOO many of them...
