    Game Basics (Learning to Play)

This guide is for beginners picking up Super Smash Brothers Brawl for the first time. It goes over only the most basic techniques and rules. I will post more advanced techniques as I get time.

    The Goal of Smash Brothers:
The goal of normal battles is to knock your opponents off the edge. When an opponent falls out of bounds either below, above, or to the sides of the stage, they will lose a life. As you damage your opponent, their damage meter increases. With higher damage, they will fly further each time you hit them. Just damaging your opponent isn't enough.

    Basic Controls:
Super Smash Brothers Brawl includes the ability to use 4 different control styles. I will briefly go over each one here.

    1. Wii Remote (Sideways):

    2. Wii Remote and Nunchuk:

    3. Classic Controller:

    4. Gamecube Controller:

*Remember you can use your Gamecube controllers by flipping up the panel on the top of your Wii and inserting the controller into the corresponding sockets. It took me a long time to find that little hatch for Gamecube controllers and memory cards.

Be sure to use the practice mode to get the hang of moving your character around. Every character has a different feel and style, but the basic controls are universally the same.

Thanks for this guide!  It will come in handy while I am trying to figure out which configuration to use.  Also, if those configurations don't appeal to you, you can customize them any way you want.  I might use the nunchuck configuration but edit what the buttons do.  I am definately comfortable with the Gamecube configuration, so that might work the best for me.

It still never ceases to amaze me how much thought they put into this game. I guess when you have so many years to make a game, you have a lot of time to think. I probably will just stick with the old Gamecube controls. I'm already really familiar with them and I have this terrible problem where getting used to a new control style really messes up my ability to play with the old one.
