Supernatural was a show that I started to watch when it debuted. I made it through the first season and into a few episodes of the second before my Thursday night viewing habits and Tivo couldn't keep up with it. Unfortunately it fell by the wayside in favor of shows like 30 Rock, The Office and Lost. But now I'm revisiting this show and remembering why I loved it so much in the first place. It's currently in the last third of its 4th season and the 4th season has been extremely good.
For those who have no idea about what I'm prattling on about, Supernatural is a show about two brothers who hunt demons/monsters/ghosts and generally whatever else gets in their way. It starts two typical CW actors and a Chevy Impala. The writing on the show is very well done and it has multi-episodic themes that stretch through seasons. The great thing is, there's always something going on. And they're not afraid to do themed episodes that remind me of the salad days of Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Earlier in the season they did a black and white episode in the theme of the old monster movies like Dracula, Frankenstein and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Supernatural isn't afraid to take risks either. There are characters who portray demons and angels (whose character may deviate from the traditional) and Heaven and Hell aren't just words thrown around, they're actual settings for some of the episodes (well, Hell at least). And if you're a fan of the "supernatural" it's a hard series to pass up.
Do yourself a favor and seek out some of the episodes. I recently picked up the first three seasons for $15 a piece and have seen them for around the same price in a few stores due to the holiday sales.
