     according to apple's website the new iPhone version 2.1 update has these new features.

     

    Update includes:

    • Decrease in call set-up failures and dropped calls
    • Significantly better battery life for most users
    • Dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
    • Improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
    • Faster installation of 3rd party applications
    • Fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes for users with lots of third party applications
    • Improved performance in text messaging
    • Faster loading and searching of contacts
    • Improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display
    • Repeat alert up to two additional times for incoming text messages
    • Option to wipe data after ten failed passcode attempts
    • Genius playlist creation

    I have a Gen 1 iPhone and downloaded the new software recently.  On the next sync, it took less than 30 seconds where it was taking several minutes before.  The battery life is much better also.  

     This was a great update.

    I wish my phone got software updates. All it does is change its mind and learn new bad habits. It recently added the following features:

    - Decreased Battery life
    - No battery life
    - Randomly dropped calls
    - Randomly deleted memory
    - Random restarts
    - New audio function which creates horrible high pitched noises randomly

    I can't wait to see what the next update has in store.
