Putin told the US that his defense officials informed him that the war in Georgia was orchestrated by the United States in order to help one of the presidential candidates to win the upcoming election. He failed to give any evidence for this accusation or even explain why he believes this. He said, "U.S. citizens were indeed in the area in conflict. They
were acting in implementing those orders doing as they were ordered,
and the only one who can give such orders is their leader." This compelling argument was eloquently refuted by white house spokeswoman Dana Perino who said, "To suggest that the United States orchestrated this on behalf of a political candidate just sounds not rational," she said."
There was a lot of blame thrown around, but I was amazed to find one key person that was not blamed. Whenever anything bad happens in the world everyone immediately blames Bush, but he was barely mentioned in this situation. Putin did express his disappointment that Bush didn't do more to stop the Georgia war from happening, but it was almost a side note compared to the accusations against... one of the presidential candidates, whichever one might be behind it.
Putin also announced that 19 US Poultry companies would be banned from trading with Russia because random health inspections discovered traces of antibiotics in the meat.
World diplomats are quickly losing faith in Russia's diplomacy and leadership right now.
