President of Sudan Charged With Genocide

The President of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, was charged with genocide by an International Criminal Court. Prosecutors claim he has killed over 300,000 people and driven about 2.5 million from their homes. Without shelter, food, or water, these refugees have been left to starve to death, adding to the deaths upon his head. A panel of judges is expected to take two to three months to decide what to do about this. It's the first time a head of state has been directly charged with criminal charges.

This could be a momentous precedent to be set by international law. If there is a global organization holding leaders accountable, it might make people rethink the way they treat their people. What are everyone's thoughts on this? Would it be a good thing to have an international governing body, or would it end up as just another superpower that could rule the world?

Sparking discussions to illuminate your horizons.
