Re: What's Your Favorite Video Game Company?

I find this a very tough call to make myself. I have an Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii and I love them both. The Xbox has some really great games and an extremely good online community. I also love the movies and arcade games available for download. It is also the only system to support Halo, which is one of the best combat games available. Xbox targets more mature audiences with more realistic and violent games. It also has built in CD and DVD players that allow you to watch movies and listen to music right from your Xbox.

Nintendo's main platforms, the Wii and the handheld DS, are both marvels in ingenuity. The DS folds easily down to the size of a wallet, but it has a crystal clear 64 bit backlit touch screen. The Wii uses cutting edge motion tracking and targeting technology to allow the user to physically move to interact with their environment. Its games are targeted for a more family environment, featuring the cleaner, more peaceful games. Its online capabilities are geared for privacy to protect children from outside predators. This also greatly limits its connection with the outside world.

Overall, I highly recommend sticking to Nintendo for a family environment, but going with an Xbox for more mature gamers. I think my Xbox is still my favorite system and it saved me from having to buy a CD player and DVD player. I still absolutely love my Wii and DS as well.

I will be surprised if anyone votes Sega in this one. They were the little company that just didn't make it when it comes to games. All their major systems tanked badly as they just couldn't match up to Nintendo's superior hardware. When Sony arose with its Playstation, Sega nearly fell into ruin. In an effort to keep alive, they did something revolutionary that I wish a lot of other competing companies would do. They adapted and sold their games to the other major companies. By doing this, they not only allowed their game fans to play the games we never could, but they also remained strong and good game developers over the years.

It's funny because for me I was torn between Nintendo and Sega. I missed the 16 bit generation, traveling from Atari straight to Saturn. I also had a Dreamcast and was disappointed to not see them continue but understood why they turned their focus upon the game titles as opposed to titles and consoles.

I rather like Nintendo's innovation. The DS and Wii has re-established them in both the platform and handheld industries.

Being sad is the same as giving up.

Yeah back in the day it was a tough call between Sega and Nintendo. Both had great games and comparable consoles. It wasn't really until the Nintendo 64 and its revolutionary hardware like the joystick built into the controller and the RUMBLE Pack that Nintendo started to truly blow its competition out of the water. I actually started my video game saga on the N64 and missed out on most of the SNES era. Still it's fun to go back on my Xbox 360 and Wii to play some of the older games that I missed out on. My girlfriend and I were playing Ecco the dolphin the other day and having a great time with it. Then we popped in Rock Band and won a private jet. It's amazing when you see how far we have come in the gaming industry.

I recently read a brief summary of the history of Nintendo. I was surprised to see that they actually started out as a Japanese playing card manufacturer. They expanded into other industries and eventually into arcade games. Donkey Kong was their first big hit in America. Strangely enough it was originally going to be a Popeye game, but the company fell through on licensing the characters. So Nintendo changed the characters to Donkey Kong and Jump Man (Mario). Just think, we could have all been playing Super Popeye Brothers.

I voted for xbox just because of halo and other games that are great for gaming. Nintendo and Wii I like more as a company.
