    Put The Glass Down

I saw this story on a blog and thought I would pass it along. There was a professor who held up a glass of water in front of his students and asked what it weighed. They said it weighed almost nothing of course. He then asked what would happen if he held it up like that for half an hour. Of course it would get tired. What about if he held it up for a day? Well, this would cause serious muscle damage. What if he held it up in the same position for a week? Now we're talking serious medical problems, total muscular atrophy, and naturally the glass would fall sooner or later regardless of how hard he tried to keep it up.

He explained that this is how stress affects our mind. Just a little stress, just a small worry, just a tiny concern that isn't laid to rest keeps hanging in the balance in our minds, turning around over and over in our heads. It's just a tiny concern but it slowly saps us of our well being. It quietly eats away at us as we're trying to sleep, gently nipping at our heals and depriving us of our rest. Naturally if we keep it up, it will keep eating away at us and slowly wear us down until we're exhausted and miserable.

So try to take a few minutes each day to just sit still and put the glass down for a minute. Clear your mind and just rest. It will do a world of good. Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves is nothing at all. Sometimes what we really need is just to stop everything and do nothing for a while.

Every man dies, but few truly live. Live your life to its fullest, every day as if it were your last.
