Women Compete in Russion Prison Pageant

In Siberia you'll see a womens prison inmates primping their hair and fluttering their lashes. The annual pageant is a welcome diversion from the strictly reginmented routine and the monotony of life inside the jail. Just as "active participation in the social life of the camp" can help women win early parole, the "Miss Spring" contest has become an important way for female inmates to demonstrate good behaviour.

Here is a CNN video clip on this event

You may not be able to live on your looks, but in Siberia, it'll get you out of jail a bit earlier.

The nice thing about standards is that there are so many of them to choose from.

Interesting, you know I bet this really helps the see themselves in a better light. There has been a lot of focus on self esteem over the years in regards to people succeeding in life, when actually it is actually more about how a person sees themselves, their self image. Sorry to get serious on you:) This is really unusual!

That's a really good point. Low self esteem is one of the first steps in a long chain of bad choices that lead people to end up criminals. I would imagine helping their self esteem will have a very positive effect on their lives in general. Each step in the right direction is progress. Enough steps and it may lead to a changed life.

Every man dies, but few truly live. Live your life to its fullest, every day as if it were your last.
