    Lost in Interpretation

Have you ever said something wholeheartedly meaning one thing and had it completely misinterpreted?

When I'm tired I do this a lot. This morning I had to stop at the bank to deposit a check. There was only one teller on duty and a lot of traffic so she was taking a long time. It was holding up all the traffic and I was going to be late for work. So I called and let them know I was being delayed. I think the conversation went something like this:

"Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I'll be a little late for work. I'm being held up at the bank and this might take a while"
"Are you ok?" (in a concerned voice)
"Oh-wait-no not HELD UP like being robbed, held up like they're taking forever. I wouldn't be quite this calm if I was being robbed"

We both had a good laugh. Sometimes it amazes me the dumb things I say without thinking about it.

Do any of you have any good stories of times you or someone you know really put their foot in their mouth?

    Re: Lost in Interpretation

Actually, as I was just posting a new blog (and was also tired), I found myself phrasing things that just didn't sound quite right. And if actions count in this question, recently I was minding my own business at home when a friend came in and I nearly whacked him in the head! Not a great idea to sneak up on me I guess. (Although on said friend's behalf, I do have to say I was expecting his arrival at some point - oh, and he also said, "Hello?" quite a few times, which I never heard from the other room.) Oops...
