How do you train your dogs to obey you? I used to have a 140 lb chocolate lab. He was very sweet and loving, but he had absolutely no regard for us if he got loose. Whenever a female dog was in heat, he would do anything he could to muscle out the door and run off to find that week's love of his life. And NOTHING could stand in his way. He was extremely strong and actually broke a chain leash and ran off one time. I used to spend hours chasing him through the woods until we were both too tired to run anymore. It was like chasing down and tackling a small horse. I would get cuts and bruises from branches, and swallowed a couple of bugs. Once I finally caught him, I had to lead him back home and restrain him if he decided to try to run again.

So I ask those of you who don't have this problem, how do you keep your dogs under control? Do they ever try to run?  

you cant exactly just train your dogs to obey u..it comes with a mixture of dominance and respect; as funny as it sounds my friend kat and i have held clinics helpin owners train dogs and horses lol :P ...newhoo, was the dog neutered? kinda weird question but an 'in-tact' dog will have different tendancies lol

I think you just nailed the problem right on the head. He was of a champion bloodline and was admired by everyone who saw him for how big and majestic he was. I never really think of a dog as majestic, but he really was somehow. He was also extremely obnoxious. Ever since he was a puppy he had this happy and oblivious personality. He really didn't respect anyone or anything, just wanted to goof off and have fun. He was really sweet, but quite a handful. And he was about the same size/weight as me, so I didn't really have anything on him. I wish someone could have trained him a bit better. He was really hard to control once he got his mind on something.

lol yep...what kinda dog? and he sounds like my grandparents' dog-it weighs well over a hundred lbs. and do u still have the dog?
