Another natural gem located within an hour of Tallahassee is the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. It hosts a huge variety of species of wildlife and a beautiful coastal forest and wetlands habitat. It has hiking/biking trails, great fishing spots, and a lighthouse to tour.

St. Marks serves as a major stopping place for the annual monarch butterfly migrations. Once a year, thousands of these butterflies swarm all over the refuge.

I absolutely love St.Marks. It's the perfect place to go even for just a bike ride or a nice long walk. The sights are to die for and it's perfect even for kids because it has several rest stops and huge play ground with picnic benches that are perfect for a lunch break. St.Marks is definitely a must see for anyone visiting. :) 

 Usually in the month of October, the refuge offers a week where there is no entrance fee. They haven't posted yet on their website, St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, when this free week will be, but it should be on there closer to the fall.
