    A quick survey

    Parents:

    Have you found that over time, you are just not as "sharp" as you used to be? After playing a "child's game" and losing, I am prompted to find out if this is a widespread problem. Watch the show "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" (preferably with your child) and get back us on that.

     I'm no where near being a parent, but I have experience from both sides. My brothers and I constantly out wit our parents, it's great fun. At the same time I work at an after school program with elementary school students who make me feel like I'm twice as old as I really am. It's a vicious cycle. :)

    I trust in your unfailing love;
    my heart rejoices in your salvation.

    It has been very strange for me too. I have a seven year old sister who is about the right age to be a daughter. Sometimes I feel like a parent and child in the same family. It is especially bad when my girlfriend and I go out with her because she looks exactly like what would happen if we had a kid. When it comes to kid games, kids sometimes get really good at them. I had an aunt who brought her boyfriend from the Mensa club and he was VERY proud of his intelligence. I was about 15 at the time and I mopped the board with him on Stratego. It wasn't because I was necessarily smarter than him, I just had found better strategies from more experience. Still he looked quite deflated. Then again some kids are just REALLY smart. Sometimes I think it's good for us to have kids keeping us humble.

    Every man dies, but few truly live. Live your life to its fullest, every day as if it were your last.

    I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. Can you re-phrase it, please, using only one-syllable words?

    Re: A quick survey

          I'm no parent, but I know what you all mean. It's really hard for me to get out of a string of classes (especially political science classes) and then confront my 7-year-old little sister's deep, probing questions and logical fallacies. It's not easy operating in two worlds, a university and the innocent, ignorant mind of a child, I have to constantly bite my tongue around my sister in order to avoid sounding like one of those lifeless political science textbooks I have to read. This makes me feel really old, and my inability to give her simple, childlike answers sometimes makes me feel a little incompetent, as if my education is making me a poorer communicator. Why can't I just enjoy my sister's world as a child would?
