When Apple announced their iPhone Software Development Kit, they invited game engineers from Sega and EA Games to show what they could come up with using the development software available to the general public. They also had their own developers working on a game to show their potential. The teams were given just two weeks to complete their projects.
Apple Team: Touch Fighter
The Apple team created a space fighter style game. It allows gamers
to steer a space ship by tilting their iPhone side to side or up and
down. They can fire lasers by tapping the touch screen. The motion
sensors in the iPhone open up a whole new control style for gaming. If
this game could be created in just two weeks, imagine what could be
done in months or years of development.

Sega Team: Super Monkey Ball
The Sega team came up with an adaptation of their popular Super Monkey Ball series. This game allows you to roll around a clear ball with a monkey trapped inside. You can tilt the platform in any direction by tilting the iPhone to any side. It creates the same feel as if you had placed a marble on a notebook and rolled it around by tilting the notebook. You must navigate long pathways and intricate mazes as you balance your monkey.

EA Games Team: Spore
I must admit I started drooling when I heard the word Spore mentioned. I have seen previews for this game and it looks like it will be incredibly fun. It allows you to evolve a creature from a single celled organism to a complex civilization capable of exploring the galaxy. You start as a free swimming plankton eating tiny organisms which allow you to grow. When you have eaten enough, you can upgrade your creature with mandibles, spines, cilia, or many other useful body parts. Each time you gain a level, you can add new features and further customize your creature to make it more fit for survival. You eventually emerge from the water as a land dwelling organism and work your way slowly up the food chain as you develop more mechanisms for survival. You can fully customize your creature's colors, markings, and other features. This game fully utilizes the touch screen for controls and customization. It is expected to be one of the first fully developed third party games for the iPhone.
