Remembering ...

Shalom,

Since Writer Lady wrote about memorial day, we would like to mention that here there is a day of remembrance just before independence day. It is a day that starts with sirens wailing throughout the country, and everyone stands still, even if they're driving on the road. They stop their vehicles, get out, and stand in silence, remembering the many casualties of the wars, and the victims of terrorist attacks throughout the years. When that day ends, the celebrations begin for the country's birthday. It is, in fact, a somewhat difficult transition, packed with emotions, but almost everyone sees those days as very sacred when it comes to patriotism.

Israel is a strong, vibrant, and basically happy country, despite the myriad dangers we face now and the difficulties we have faced in the past. This land is a beautiful strip of geography, and the culture here is one of vivacious variety and upbeat living. It's truly a shame for anyone to miss an opportunity to experience this small but fun and historic land.

Well, that was my best pitch for tourism! And no, I don't get a commission for the pitch ...  Big Smile

Time to go now. More to follow ...

I am really impressed that your country has such a solemn day of remembrance for fallen heroes. While we have a similar holiday here in America, so few of us really take the time to really honor those who died to make us free. It seems so many Americans live in the present and not enough look back to the past. We could learn a lot from your people.

As far as travel to Israel, I hope to go there someday. The people, culture, history, and geography of your country have always interested me and I hope to see it for myself someday.

I have always been fascinated by Jewish culture and traditions. I have some friends who sometimes invite us over to share in some of their traditions, and it is always a very enlightening experience. I would love to hear more about your culture from someone actually living in Israel.
