Sky Siege – Augmented Reality Game for iPhone

I have seen several augmented reality applications for the iphone, but never an augments reality game.
Sky Siege is a basic survival game where you have a range of anti aircraft weapons that you us to shoot down the enemies planes. It's Sky Siege's use of the magnetometer, accelerometer, and augmented reality that makes this game unique.

Instead of a joystick to move your antiaircraft turret around you have to move the phone left and right, up and down like it was mounted to the gun. When you do this you will see the background moving and if you point the phone at the floor you will see the ground.  What makes it even cooler is you can turn on the augmented reality and see the view from your iphone's camera as a backdrop while you search and destroy the enemies planes. So it looks kind of like there are little planes and helicopters flying around your living room that you have to shoot down.

It's a very interesting idea and seems like it would be really cool to play. At least it will impress your friends when you show it to them. The game does not seem to have that much depth to it other than just shooting down planes, but there are multiple weapons you can use to get the job done. The games intrigue is definitely in the augmented reality and controller scheme.

Sky Siege is $2.99 in the app store and only works on the iphone 3G S because it needs the magnetometer, aka digital compass, to make the game controls work. Give the application a look see and checkout the screenshots.
