Sumo Omni bean bag chair - Alternative dorm furniture or floor pillow
Thursday, September 25, 2008 4:35 PM

I am not a child of the 70's so I really wasn't into the whole bean bag chair fad. I did however have a bean bag chair when I was little a couple in fact. I had some friends that had a pair that were really expensive that were some kind of denim. They were great for a while and then they went flat. In fact now that I think about it every bean bag chair that I have ever owned either went flat or the seams busted after a while.

When I got older I grew out of thinking that a bean bag chair was an exceptionable alternative to having a chair. To some extent thats still true but having said that I think that the Sumo Omni Bean bag chair is no ordinary bean bag chair. First of all its huge 4.5' x 5.5' to be exact. and its not shaped like a normal bean bag chair either. Most bean bags are shaped like a egg or a pear. The Sumo chair is shaped more like a sac or a sandwich bag. Whats so great about the shape of the Sumo omni is that you can fold it and mold it in many different ways. This allows you to sit and relax in many different positions. If you lay the Omni flat it acts as a huge floor pillow which is great. The Sumo Omni comes in many different shapes, sizes and colors which is great to match the decor of any room. The fabric of the Omni is great because its a rip proof and stain resistant nylon, which makes the Omni wear very well over time.

I think that the Sumo Omni or other products that Sumo makes would make perfect dorm room furniture. They are great for studying and playing video games in, and you never get tired of sitting in them because you can always change the form of the chair.

Some of the many positions of the Sumo Omni

Different Styles of Sumo Chairs

Now that you can see all the different kinds of Sumo chairs I think that its time for me to talk about my favorite. I Love the idea of the Sumo omni. I think that its great that you can change the positions of the chair. Its no ordinary bean bag chair. Most bean bag chairs only have one way you can sit in it but the Sumo omni has tuns of different ways of sitting in to to prevent you from getting uncomfortable in one position. Stay tuned for more.  Heres a link to the website if you want to check it out. Sumo Lounge Gear

logitech V220 great mouse great drivers and software for mac.

Buy It at Amazon Today!

Logitech V220 Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks

So I need to buy a mouse for my mac and I came across the Logitech v220. This is a great mouse. It has a small design but its not too small. Some smaller mice seem too small in my hand but this one does not. As you can see it has a scroll wheal in the middle which is great for scrolling. This is a common feature of most mice but this one has the left and right scrolling as well which only some have. The optical sensor is 1000 dpi which means that it is very accurate and precise. It only uses one AA battery which is great and it seems to use its power pretty frugally. Other than that it is just a great mouse over all. I wish though that it was Bluetooth. With this mouse you have to plug in the little receiver into a USB port to make it work. I know that logitech has bluetooth mice but this one for the money is a best buy for me.

One of the features of this mouse that I liked the most was that once you install the drivers for the mouse on your computer the mouse has a bunch of really great options that you can activate. On my mac the software allows you to do all the regular features like track speed and all that, but it also allows you to change what each of the buttons do. You can also assign a certain key combination to a button so when you hit that button it will perform an action. Which is great if you like to create shortcuts for doing things faster.

  • Easy transport: The mini-receiver snaps into the mouse, turning it off.

Performance

  • High-definition optical technology: The 1000 dpi optical sensor makes the Logitech® V220 Cordless Optical Mouse two and a half times more responsive than standard optical mice.
  • Side-to-Side Scrolling plus Zoom**: Perfect for viewing digital photos and spreadsheets. Instantly zoom in and out; scroll horizontally or vertically.

Eyetv - Elgato - Mac OSX watch tv on your mac
Monday, September 22, 2008 3:59 PM

I have an Eyetv hybrid from Elgato for the Mac osx Operating system. The eyetv hardware acts as a tuner for your cable which allows you to watch your TV on your computer and record it to watch it later. The eyetv software creates the interaction between you and your hardware. Its really like the ultimate DVR for your computer. If you wanted to create a media center for your TV this would be a great option. It would work great with a mac mini and comes with a controller that can control just about everything on the eyetv. It also has a feature that they call time shifting where you can pause live TV rewind or fast forward.

Eyetv allows you to create and use titan tv as your tv guide and allows you to schedule items to be recorded over the internet so that when eyetv syncs with titan TV all your programs that you selected to record will be added to your recording schedule. works really well, but works best with standard analog cable.

If you have a cable top box you have to change the channels with the actual controller that comes with the cable box. If you wanted to be able to change the channels with the eyetv you would have to get one of the eyetv products that will do that. The hybrid does not have a IR changer. You would have to go with something like the eyetv 250 plus to get functions like that.

This is the hybrid which is great for travailing. It looks like a large thumb drive but it does all its magic in that little container.

This is the 250 plus a little bit more than the hybrid but has a little bit more muscle. This is the kind that can change channels on the set-top boxes. It also has better internal video compressions that the hybrid does not.

I didn't really talk about this one but this one allows you to watch TV on all your macs at the same time. Its like having eyetv for each one. The device connects to your network and provides the TV signal from any mac on the network.

The End

Walt Disney World free on your Birthday!
Friday, September 19, 2008 5:53 PM

Starting in 2009 if you go to Walt Disney World on your birthday and you show them your identification to prove that its really your birthday they will give you a free pass to get into one of the Walt Disney theme parks. Walt Disney World is starting a new campaign and their slogan being "What will you celebrate?". They say that the promotion is to help promote what they like to call Celebration vacations. When I was a kid my parents just gave me and gift and sang to me I never got to go to Disney World.  Apparently its a growing trend to Celebrate by taking a tripi somewhere and Disney wants to be the first on their list. Pretty cool I want to go to Disney for free. Too bad its not my birthday.

Fancast and Hulu, what’s the difference? What’s the relationship?
Thursday, September 18, 2008 2:54 PM

Something that is really starting to take off is watching your favorite TV shows online. I know that there have been all kinds of illegal websites that allow you to watch our favorite shows for free but they get closed down and then you can't watch your shows anymore.

Well I heard about Hulu.com a year or two ago and it allows you to legally watch some of your favorite TV shows right on their website for free. They also have little clips of the shows as well as full movies. It's great, you can watch them when you're on the go or sitting at home. One of the cool things about Hulu is if they don't have the full episodes of the show you're looking for they are linked to the network that has them. For instance South Park has a website that you can watch all the old episodes. On the main hulu page for South Park hulu has a link to the www.southparkstudios.com page.

Fancast seems to be the new kid on the block when it comes to online TV shows. I am not really sure what the relationship between hulu and fancast is but there seems to be some sort of sharing going on. Some of the same content is available on both sites. The content that is the same as hulu's they have little links back to hulu. The major difference is that at store.fancast.com allows you to download movies and TV shows to rent or own on your pc or mac. This seems to be what the major networks were cooking up in response to the apple store selling movies and TV shows for download. Of course fancast is a Comcast company the store.fancast.com is a CIM Communications, LLC. I think. Anyways the store is still in Beta so I'll keep an eye out for what they do with it.

Seems to me that fancast is a front to get people to come and watch show for free so that they can fuel their store where they sell all their movies and TV shows. Seems like a good idea lets see if it works.

Bluesnarfing - What people could do to your Phone
Thursday, September 18, 2008 2:31 PM
Bluesnarfing is a kind of hack were the hacker will use a program that can access your device through Bluetooth and download:
  • your address book
  • steal pictures and video
  • e-mails
  • place phone calls
  • and more
Some of these programs are so good that they don't even need your approval to pair with your devise. The only way to tell that the person is using your phone it so see the phone's interaction with the bluesnarfer. A lot of phones will give you a message saying that the bluetooth connection is either connected or not. Every time the bluesnarfer does something some phones will show the connections go in and out. There are a lot of these kinds of programs and they run on many different devises. Some of the programs only work on certain phones and others will not do all the features listed above. All this to say be careful what information is on your phone. You don't know who will be looking.

The History of RickRolling
Wednesday, September 17, 2008 3:03 PM

I am going to share with you about rickrolling. You can Rickroll someone by sending them a link that is disguised as a actual link to something, but really its a link to a Rick Astley video of "Never Going to Give You Up".

It supposable started on an imageboard called 4chan, when someone posted a link to an image or news article and instead the link went to a picture of a duck that had wheels Photoshop on to it.  They started to refer to it as "Dockrolling". Well then someone posted a link and it went to the Rick Astley video and that’s how it all started.

RickRolling started to pickup steam as people outside the Imageboard started doing it. On April fools day youtube had all their featured videos link to the Rick Astley video. Posts on Digg started to rickroll people as well. It was a rickroll phenomenon. Well that’s the way it started and that’s how it is going to continue. Heres a link to learn more about RickRolling.

Ike's good at catching fish
Wednesday, September 17, 2008 2:36 PM

So after Ike's distruction was over and everyone went outside to see what the damage was they discovered that the storm had lodged fish into chain link fences. how cool is that? I imagine that they really were not in the mood to fully appreciate how funny it is but i guess they can be thankful that they are not lodged in a fence. Right?

Are Macs going to be the next big gaming machines?
Wednesday, September 17, 2008 9:22 AM

I know it sounds stupid but think about it a couple of years ago there were no major titles for your mac, and now EA Games and others have started to make some major titles for the mac including battlestations midway, Age of Empires III, Guitar Hero III and Spore. On apples website they have a least 80 titles that are mainstream not any of this 1990 gaming crap.

Okay well other than the Games the computer as you may have noticed are more and more becoming very good gaming machines. They are getting fast and as one blog that I read pointed out they now put pretty high end graphics cards in their newer computer.  Macs also have awesome screens that have great color and resolution. The macs of course have the intel processor chip rather than the power-PC chip of yesteryear. Because of this I can already run most PC games on the virtual machine and they run really well. My wife can run The Sims 2 with an extension pack on my mac on the virtual machine.

I have been playing Spore on my mac and the game play is great and looks great on my 24" iMac. I think that macs are going to be the preferred gaming machine of the future. I know that sounds dumb now since Macs have always been so far behind in the gaming market. If you would of told me a couple of years ago that macs would be able to run windows virtually and natively i would of told you that you were crazy. So I can see how this could become reality. For now I am going to continue to game on my mac and hope for the best.

What if science could make it happen?
Tuesday, September 16, 2008 5:35 PM

What if scientists could make a pill that would allow you to only sleep 3 hours a night and be fully rested. What if the pill induced a state of constant REM sleep and would allow you to feel great after only 3 hours of sleep. Do you think that it would be a good thing? Or do you think that it would change the way that we do things? I tend to believe that if it was not necessary to sleep a certain  number of hours a day that the world find a way to make that work to their advantage. Businesses would adopt longer work days to be more productive and get more done. The world that we live in would expect more out of a working person. If that was true would it really be worth it. Would you really want to work all the time just to have the money to live better for the 3 hours a day you have to yourself at home. The question is would you rather work more and have more money but less time or work less but have less money but more time? I guess it all comes down to what do you live for?

Window's Mojave Experiment - Microsoft tricked people into saying they liked vista
Tuesday, September 16, 2008 9:43 AM

The new version of windows is out yawwww NO not really. Microsoft started a new campaign called the Mojave experiment. They took people off the street that had never seen vista in action and showed them vista but called it Mojave, saying that it was the new windows operating system. Well I don't think that this commercial and website is going to convince anyone. It has been proven that people that don't know what they are talking about will say whatever you want. The mojave experiment reminds me of the pizza hut commercials where they trick people in the restaurants into eating their new pasta. People are dumb they will say anything is good if you stick a camera in their face. One of the participants in windows experiments said that the people giving vista a bad name probably haven't used it before or don't know that much about it. I could not disagree more Vista got a bad name by the people who payed a lot of money for it and used it. Vista was ridiculed by the computer world. People who know what makes a good operating system and are not fooled by cheap tricks, bells and whistles. These are the people who are passing judgment. That is how Vista got a bad name. I don't think that dumb end-users that could be fooled by the Mojave experiment are going to change the minds of the people that know more about computers and vista. I think that Microsoft should launch a campaign to make vista better that way it will be accepted in the computer world and people will like it. Thats what I think.

Oil prices finally drop under $100 per barrel
Monday, September 15, 2008 4:24 PM

So oil is finally below $100 a barrel. This is the first time in 6 months that it has been below 100 dollars. Its recored high was $147 a barrel. I was having this discussion on another post about the gas prices, but I think that the government needs to find a way to make us totally independent of foreign oil.  I was saying on the other post that if I blame the government for anything concerning the gas prices it would be that we are too dependent of foreign oil. I really don't have a problem with drilling in areas that have wild life. As long as we don't make anything extinct or really harm the circle of life or ecosystem in the area I'm fine with that. I say drill. Start making holes in the ground that have oil coming out of them. If we can't provide ourselves with oil then we really should put our big American brains together and think of a way to drive our cars the way we want and for a decent price. I'm not saying electric cars cause I think that they are wimpy. Have you ever heard a hybrid car startup. NO you haven't cause they don't make any noise, and thats the best part. well anyways thats my rant about hybrids and oil and gas.

Florida gas prices spike because of hurricane Ike's predicted destruction.
Friday, September 12, 2008 2:25 PM

Florida has seen its gas prices increase in the last day because of hurricane Ike. Until about noon today 9/12/08 gas in Tallahassee was $3.69 a gallon, about a penny over the national average. Right now though there is at least one gas station in Tallahassee that is selling gas at $5.49. This is technically not price gouging though I have to say that doesn't really make me feel better. As long as the retailer is just passing the wholesale price to the customers then its not considered to be gouging. The real problem is that most of the gas that comes to Florida comes from tanker ships. So as you can imagine that would be a problem with a 800 mile wide hurricane in the gulf. Because of this Florida is going to go through a shortage and is going to see an increase in price. So there is nothing that really can be done but don't worry about it will go back down. Will has spoken.

Software Review - Teleport - Want to controle both your macs with the same keyboard and mouse ?
Friday, September 12, 2008 1:57 PM

Teleport is a little lightweight application that works in the background that allows you to use the same keyboard and mouse to control more than one computer. Teleport uses your network connection to control the other computers. When you install the software onto all the computers you want to control you can setup the screens so that when you drag your mouse off the screen it pops onto the other computer. Of course you can always go back to the other computer by going back to the edge of the screen. Teleport also allows you to drag and drop files from one computer to the other.  This can be very helpful. Go to their website and download it. Will has spoken.
