COLD but fun. We went during the pleasant afternoon, but once the sun went down it was quite a drop in temp. I left early with my 5-year old, but my oldest was able to brave the cold with family and had a ball.

writer lady: the microchip was a great idea. I thought of a little leash too, but I had plenty of help keeping up with her.

One time my mom got out of the car to get the mail and my brother got out of his car seat and put the car into reverse. With me in my car seat we went in reverse into the road and down the driveway of the neighbor across the street and through the garage door into their kitchen. It was a crazy ride and a good story.

Perhaps its the position of being an outside authority figure. They live with their parents every day so they are very familiar with them. I think there's somewhat of an awe struck wonder at the power of a teacher. Perhaps if you gave your kids grades or had the potential to humiliate them in front of their peers, they would remember better.

I seem to always be busy when it's around and never get a chance to go. Perhaps I'll go this year just for the sake of going.

I don't resent me parents for spanking me. They would clearly present to me what I did wrong and what the punishment was and in love they spanked me. They Thing is about a spanking is that its always there. The punishment is always the same. So no matter what a child does they know the consequences.

Did you hear about the man arrested here last week after abducting and raping a 61-year-old woman in South Florida the day before? He was arrested at the fairgrounds, and the initial story was that he was hired as a day laborer to help set up. Last week the fair manager said he was employed there, but this week he denies it.

I know how hard it is to keep track of excited little kids in a big crowd, and I'm thinking of having my son microchip-ed before we go!

In light of your childhood experience, what's your opinion on spanking children?

We keep it as a last resort, but 2 or 3 times a year things get so bad we give our son the option of getting a spanking (butt up, across my lap, 3 quick whacks) or foregoing a special outing or anticipated gift.

He invariably chooses the spanking, but afterwords he ends up hugging and patting me as I cry! I think I hate it more than he does!

I was the kid that if you told me not to do something I would immediately go and do it as much as I could until I got caught. Then I would go running away again. I got spanked so much when I was a kid. I was spanked pretty much everyday until I straitened out. To tell you the truth I don't think I ever really grew up. I think that I stopped receiving spankings because I got too big for them.

And makes that reaction so violent. It's pretty cool. There's a cool episode of Mythbusters where they do diet code and mentos myths. Might want to check it out sometime it comes on the discovery channel. Plus if you look up diet coke and Mentos on youtube there are all kinds of interesting videos. One set of guys made this whole contraption that set off other parts of the contraption using this concept. pretty cool and a fun science fair project.

Many crimes aren't really worthy of the trauma of jail time, but certainly deserve some form of punishment and correction. I am sure that during the hours of public ridicule bearing the shame of their actions, something clicks in their minds and they decide not to do anything like that again. The fact that the sentence is optional should save the judge from public criticism as well. After all, the convicts do choose their sentence. As far as your questions,

1. I'm sure the kid gets a parole officer to supervise/scold him while he carries his sign.

2. I have no idea but I'm sure it is long enough to make them think twice before acting stupid again.

3. I bet they are extremely happy to get off jail time, but probably have second thoughts after a few hundred laughs and condemning eyes. It could be a truly life-changing experience and not one they would soon want to repeat.

Learning to read is a real milestone in the world today. Next comes computer literacy. It's funny how this generation's computer literacy is becoming just as crucial as reading was for the previous generation. In the world today those who can't use computers are quickly falling far behind.

I still remember when I used to spend hours out on the porch reading, back before all this technology took over. Now I spend all my time reading text on a screen.
