The Final Chapter: The Kids and the Car
Monday, June 30, 2008 1:39 PM

Well, all is well. They have gotten the driver's insurance company to pay for the damages to my car. I can now take it to the body shop and not pay out of pocket for the repairs. No, he was not charged with hit and run, but at least I am not paying for this. I do hope this makes him realize he must be more careful when driving and boy do I  hope that someone else drops that child off at school come this August!

Storm Disasters
Thursday, June 26, 2008 10:59 AM

Our area had severe thunderstorms last night. Frequent lightning flashes and scary crackling thunder made us grateful to be indoors and safe, hoping as many as possible were indoors too.

Today, I heard a commercial on the radio about hurricane preparedness (or lack thereof). A family who had gone almost 24 hours with two small hungry children--no food, no drinking water, no power, no telephone service and a dead cell phone wondering what will happen to them. Well, I have heard this commercial several times before, but after a storm like that, I think twice about what my family would do when a storm or hurricane, taking out power, came through our city. We are so dependent on electricity for: lighting, cooking, and washing that we don't always realize how devastating an event like this can be. Especially, when an entire family is involved. I am determined now to put a good plan in place now where we have food, water and other necessities when we need them.

The commercial named a website: www.haveahurricaneplan.com

Take a look at how to prepare for such a disaster long before it occurs and while supplies are available.

The Joy of Moving
Friday, June 20, 2008 1:55 PM

Our family had to move last weekend and it was quite a job. We began packing boxes 2 weeks in advance and still had several items to box on moving day. Anything from dishes in the dishwasher and drain, to knick knacks on the kitchen counters. Finding a place to put everything in our new home was much more fun. Everyone has plenty of room for their things and we actually gained kitchen and closet space, although losing square footage, so we are happy with that. Now that our dog has adjusted to where the front and back doors are, life in our new home is good.  We look forward to using this weekend to enjoy it all. We found that being able to change our address online for most of our bills and mail was quite easy and took place right away. Be ware though, that if you move and need to forward your mail through the post office (www.usps.com) although the process is quick and easy, actually receiving your mail in the right place is not that easy. We are still driving by our last home (now vacant) to get our mail until our forwarding order kicks in. The same goes for the last resident(s) in our new home. They did an online forwarding order over a week ago and we are still collecting their mail for them. Oh, well...such is life.
