We've Been Traveling - Jacksonville

We needed to get away and find something fun to do with the kids, so we decided to try Jacksonville earlier this month. Their zoo is really neat and we saw far more animals than we expected to find. I'll admit that it is not easy to watch them knowing that they are in captivity, but hey, they are well fed and they sure didn't seem to mind. At least, most of them.

I think that being able to get away for a weekend and view living things that do absolutely nothing except eat and sleep (and then go do the same yourself) says it all.  It was also one of the few things we have been able to do with the kids and not get bombarded with complaints. It was hot, it took all day, but they really enjoyed it. So that one is staying on our list of places to go back to.

I'll fill you in on our recent trip to Orlando next time...

That sounds like a lot of fun. I always enjoyed zoos as a kid. It's absolutely fascinating some of the animals that can be found in our world. As far as living in captivity, I know some animals have a lot of trouble with it but I always remind people that in the wild, every animal is a walking snack. Sooner or later it will be eaten by something or killed by someone. In a zoo, at least they're alive and often reasonably happy.
