PONDERINGS

Burn... that's people who don't tan do.

I spent probably 20 minutes out in the sun with no sun block. BURN.

I have to start carrying sub block around with me now that it's burn season. :(  No cancer for me please.

If you can relate, speak up.

I can totally relate. I have always burned much more readily than I tan. I always go for the highest SPF I can find and sometimes wear a shirt too. And I often burn right through it all. I'll admit I'm usually swimming, or waterskiing at speeds that push any waterproofing to its limits. Still, I would like to TAN just a bit before I go straight to the burn stage.

P.S. Does anyone use that spray on sunscreen? I like that stuff a lot because it's easy to apply and doesn't feel so uncomfortable to be coated with... but it turns me BLUE. Not every time but I have used it on a lot of occasions and twice people have suddenly turned to me and said ummm... you're blue. And sure enough, I had a big blue patch of skin on my back. I don't know if it was shirt fabric color bleeding through or if my body somehow chemically reacts with it and causes a blue coloration... but it weirded me out enough to stop using it.

I really like to use the spray on sunscreen but we never have any. You can always tell when you've put it on evenly.

Do you use anything special for your face? I had this thing that was sort of like chapstick and you just twist the bottom and the stuff would come out like a solid. You just put it on your nose and cheeks and it would keep your pores clean. I LOVE that stuff. :D

I get sunburned in the car everyday on my way home from work. I use a moisturizer and sometimes a foundation with sunscreen, but it's just not enough. Being Dutch and Welsh means I'm melanin challenged. My poor little boy got the Irish genes from his dad, too. I always feel like such a bad parent when he gets sunburned.

Are you also the one that mosquitoes go for? Jack and I are mosquito magnets, and I wondered if the traits ran together. I hate putting DEET on him, but after 6 years of trying all the other repellants, I've given up. Once he gets bites he scratches them till they bleed and get infected.

I am a lot more prone to burning too, and mosquitoes always used to go for me. It wasn't until I started hanging out with my girlfriend that they started leaving me alone. Unfortunately it's because they like her even better. The worst part is she is terribly allergic to them so we always have to have some kind of bug repellent to even go outside in the evenings.

I have the same problem driving. One of my arms is always more red than the other one when that happens. I used to be on the crew team where we would be out side in the sun about 6 days a week either running, lifting weights, or rowing and out of all the girls, I was the only one that didn't get tan. Of course, when you're out for that long you do get a little bit of a tan, but I would always burn first. What's kind of amusing is that my back ground is mostly hispanic. Both of my mom's parents are dark skinned but she came out with pale olive skin... she actually tans really well.. I wish I could have been fortunate enough to get dark skin. But I guess i'll just have to embrace my pale skin and freckles. :)

As for mosquitos..  they used to absolutely looove me. But for some reason they don't now. I went on a walk with my friends out in Quincy and the sun started going down... there were SWARMS of mosquitos and was the only one with out bug repellent. I was also the only one who didn't get bit. In that way I think I'm blessed. I can't stand the idea of little tiny creatures sucking my blood. It grosses me out. Every once in a while I'll get a bite and it really annoys me.
