  • iPod Copyright Statement

We have had our first patron come wanting to put the iTunes files on their own iPod. We knew this was coming but we never had a clear, black/white stance on this until now. Taken from the Music Library Association's Statement on the Digital Transmission of Electronic Reserves: "dubbing or digital copying of musical works for class reserves falls within the spirit of the fair use provision of the copyright law, IF...access to such digital copies must be through library-controlled equipment."

Our take on this statement is that our iPods are library-controlled equipment. If you have any quesitons or concerns about this policy, please talk to either Amy or Larisa.

  • juvenile collection & MOBIUS

Books in the OTC juvenile collection are now able to be requested by MOBIUS patrons -- you do not need to worry about the "OTC only" status for them anymore. T.
  • Tornado Procedure

In the event of a tornado here is the course of action in the LRC. Hopefully there would be plenty of advance warning to gather students and staff together. Take the group to the Archives Room. If possible, get into the Vault area. The 3 video viewing rooms and the 2 little rooms between Larisa's office and the Classroom would also offer some protection. However, the vault area would be much better. Stay away from windows and shelves. If time permits, go upstairs to the Quiet Study and have those students come down to the LRC. However, do not risk your life to do this. Sometimes you have to get a bit assertive to get folks to follow your directives. But they have always complied with us in the past. Hopefully we will never need to use this information. Linda
  • Glenda Harrison Reserve Assignment

I had a student in this morning looking for a 2-3 page article on reserve for Glenda Harrison. What the students actually need is the book "Living History America". This book has many different summaries and the assignment is for them to find 2 or 3 out of this book and write their own summary on them. Another assignment for this class is to write a paper on a peer reviewed article. I hope this helps. :-) Amy Landon
  • We are live!

Larisa and I wanted to let everyone know that we have gone live with checking out the iPods. I checked out my first one this morning as soon as the doors were opened. So be prepared for students to be asking about them. If you feel that you need additional training, please do not hestitate to ask one of us. Also, please make sure that the students realize that the iPods are for class course materials only and not just personal use.
