  • Staff Development Day

On Tuesday, December 20th, we will be having a staff development day for all LRC employees. We plan to shut down the LRC for this day while we participate in different activities. We wanted to get this information out to you early so anyone that has other work conflicts could rearrange their schedule. Please confirm you have read this post using the 'comments' section right below. If you have a conflict you cannot get out of, please let me know right away. It is highly desired that every employee attend this development day. The exact time is yet to be determined, but plan on something like 10-3. That same afternoon everyone will get to attend the OTC Holiday Reception. If you have any questions about this day, please let me know. Thanks!
  • SWAN/MOBIUS books...

Three MSU books were found on the shelving cart today -- please make sure that all SWAN/MOBIUS books are placed on the SWAN/MOBIUS shelf next to ready reference so they may be returned to their home library. When checking in a SWAN/MOBIUS book, messages should pop up in Millennium that say "This book belongs at..." and list the lending library. Thanks for your attention on this matter. Todd
  • Reminder about Account Status Forms

Please remember to fill out a Account Status Form for all patrons that have billed items. I had a overdue reserve item that was returned during the time frame of Friday morning to this morning that had a hold on their account and no one filled out an Account Status Form on this patron. Thank you, Amy Landon
  • Personalized Reference Assistance

Our new service is up and running on the LRC website. The new service is 'Personalized Reference Assistance.' If a student needs one-on-one time with us to learn more about the LRC or databases, they now can fill out the online form to schedule a time with one of the staff members. Shortly we'll advertise this new service around the campus and hopefully will have bookmarks made also.

Check it out on our website.

  • Example of receipt for paid items

Here is an example of a receipt for a paid item. Please follow this example when filling out a receipt for a patron. Give them the portion on the right and we keep the portion on the left in the receipt book. Thank you, Amy Landon
  • Free Full Text to Sage Journals Online

SAGE is letting us access the full text to all of their online journals for the rest of October. Check out the following link and do some practice searches. I found a great article in the Journal of Contemporary Ethnography for a student researching the Tango! :-) http://online.sagepub.com/misc/free_access.dtl
  • New VAULT password each month

Please be aware that the password for the VAULT Online Career Library database changes every month. When you request it, they email it to you immediately so it is not a big problem.
  • Six can soup.

Here is the recipe for the soup that our neighbors made for us when we were busy with our garage sale. Very easy and very good! 1 pound ground, cooked and drained hamburger 3 cans Campbell's Minestrone 1 can Rotel (the neighbor removes the seeds, I don't) 1 can Ranch beans 1 soup can of water Combine, heat and serve. Enjoy!
  • Reserve Tally

Hello everyone. I want to "ditto" what Todd said on the blog posted 10/13/05 titled "Reference Question Tally Sheet". I noticed this morning that there were no reserve tallies for yesterday and none so far for today (10/14/05). Please make sure that you tally all reserve items on the tally sheet so that the statistics are kept accurately. This is a great service for our students and we want to be able to show everyone that it is a service that is being well used. Bare with me on some changes to the reserves area. I am trying to get things to run a little more smoothly (if that is possible...but I am going to try). The yellow sheets seem to working fine. Thanks you Lisa and April for remembering. :-) My plan is to really do an overhaul to this area and have it completed by the beginning of the Spring semester (overhaul meaning more organized and current materials). I want this to run smoothly for everyone, students and staff. Thank you, Amy Landon
  • Patron Information (Yellow) Cards

When updating a student's contact information (address, telephone number, etc.), please: 1. Have the student fill out the yellow card with new information. 2. Enter the new information into the student's record in Millennium (use the "Edit" button on the top tool bar in the record; a new window will open -- be sure to save all changes. 3. Initial the card in the bottom right corner and place in box by Station 2. 4. Make sure to remove message asking for contact information update (again in the "Edit" mode). Corky will check the cards before taking them to Student Services so the information can be placed in the main computer. Thanks! Todd
  • posters in the LRC...

All posters displayed in the LRC, or on the windows outside of the LRC that are not "official" should be approved by either myself or Linda -- if a student, faculty or other person should ask at the desk, please give it to either Linda or myself, of leave it in our mailboxes if we are not here. T.
  • Reference question tally sheet

All staff are encouraged to mark down on the tally sheet any Reference questions as well any reserve and media transactions -- remember that these statistics are used for the LRC Committee and to show others how busy of a place this is! Please mark down any and all reference questions. T.
  • Replacement fees for billed books...

When a patron pays a replacement fee for billed item(s): 1. Please issue a receipt to the patron from the receipt book in the money tray, so in case they find the item(s), they may receive a refund. 2. You will also need to issue an Account Status Change form to the patron if their record is blocked -- make one copy and give to Todd. 3. Please print a copy of the fees from the "fines paid" section under the "Fines" tab in the patron record & give to Todd. 4. Please record the fees paid on the tally sheet by Station 1. Thanks! Todd
  • $50.00?

Just a reminder that we really shouldn't make change for large bills ($20.00 and above) -- there was a $50.00 bill in the drawer this afternoon. If a student has only a large bill for copies and/or printours, we can always take an I.O.U. from them and record it on their Millennium record until they can come in & pay it. T.
