Mesothelioma Treatment Options
Mesothelioma Treatment options vary depending upon the location and stage of the disease.
To relieve pain, the doctor may attempt to drain fluid that has built up in the affected areas. In the chest area this is procedure is called thoracentesis. When in the stomach area, the procedure is called paracentesis. Drugs may be administered in the same areas to limit more fluid from accumulating.
Standard treatment options include Surgery, Radiation, and Chemotherapy. Surgical options include removing tissue from the affected areas. This may include parts of the lungs, diaphragm and surrounding tissue.
Radiation consists of bombarding the affected area with high-energy rays or injected materials in an effort to kill the Mesothelioma cells. Chemotherapy involves the use of anticancer drugs which are injected into the body.
