Grey's Music

November 2006 - Posts

  • Grey's Anatomy Music: Season 3, Episode 9

Grey's Anatomy Music: Season 3, Episode 9 From a Whisper to a Scream The Dears - You and I are a Gang of Losers  Damien Rice - 9 Crimes  Kate Havenvik - New Day  Not a whole lot of music.
  • Grey's Anatomy Music: Focus on Snow Patrol

I know this is blasphemy but I hate Snow Patrol. I do. They are constantly featured in the music of Grey's Anatomy but I hate them. I think their music sucks and for the life of me I can't understand why so many people like them. I guess it's like U2 Syndrome. People think they're good because they think other people think they're good. Why am I wasting my time writing about them then? Because I am committed to focusing in on each group featured in the music of Grey's Anatomy and it wouldn't be fair to skip them just because I think they suck. The have two websites--their main site and their Myspace site. The first big hit they had on Grey's Anatomy was Chasing Cars, a pretty weak song that I can see a lot of emo kids sitting around listening to. Those kids may or may not be crying (since that's what emo kids do, right?). According to their MySpace site they've had their songs listened to over 18 million times on the site alone. Wow. How can people, including the music producers for Grey's Anatomy, be so stupid?
  • Grey's Anatomy Music: Focus on Gnarls Barkley

Look, like everyone else on the planet I like the song Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. That said, what on Earth is Gnarls Barkley doing on Grey's Anatomy? They're not emo! Their songs aren't sad nor about things no one cares about. They wouldn't summer camp T-Shirts. So what are they doing in the music for Grey's Anatomy? Gnarls Barkley has two websites: their main one and their Myspace one. The design for their main one is pretty cool--I like all/mostly-flash websites mainly because I can't do that. If you need a web application or clean, simple design or AJAX stuff, I'm your man--but those actionscript programmers--they're a different breed. Anyway, I'm just not sure what Gnarls Barkley has to do with the music in Grey's Anatomy. I know it makes me a terrible person for even talking about this but come on. Stay in your vein.
  • Streaming Grey's Anatomy

Even though ABC sucks for taking away our favorite programming so they can give their entire company three months off, at least they're letting us watch old episodes for free online, even though their Flash player is pretty crappy and frequently forces you to start over each time it hits a commercial and if you have a high-bandwidth connection (and who doesn't nowadays) you can stream everything from Ugly Betty to Grey's Anatomy. It's a nice idea but an even nicer one would be, oh I don't know, airing new episodes? Showing a season in full?
  • Grey's Anatomy Music: Season 3, Episode 8

Grey's Anatomy Music: Season 3, Episode 8 (Staring At The Sun) Just FYI: U2 totally sucks. Lily Allen - Smile (audio) Get Set Go - Everybody Get Movin' (audio) The Watson Twins - Time of My Life(audio) Mat Kearney - Where We Gonna Go From Here? (audio) Ingrid Michaelson - Breakable (audio) Tough week.
  • Feeling Lost without Lost

Yesterday was the first Wednesday without Lost. Without it how was I even supposed to know it was Wednesday? Thursdays are poker and karate so I can always feel that one. Fridays are Friday. Mondays are Mondays. Tuesdays there's karate. But Wednesday--wow, without Lost there is no way to know what day it is. Jamie told me the actress that played Anna Lucia was gay. Woo, big deal. I was hoping an actual character on the show was going to be gay and cause all sorts of drama. Anna Lucia is dead anyway. Whatever. Go to hell ABC.
  • Jeff Bowden Resigns

A booming chorus of Hallelujah rings through my brain as I gleefully write this blog update. The mastermind behind the offensive marathon against teams like Rice and Troy will be parting ways with Florida State. His resume is impressive, chalking up notable wins over schools like: The Citadel, University of Alabama-Birmingham, Syracuse and Duke. It is rumored that he will be replaced by the head coach at Valdosta State. Boo! Bring in someone good who will replace Bobby when he leaves. Get that dude from LSU or Norm Chow or someone. Get a man! A man's man!
  • What Ever Happened To...

What ever happened to... that BP oil shortage in Alaska? I thought that was supposed to cripple our economy and result in an 8% increase in gas prices. Our gas went down. Everyone's gas went down and we've never heard a peep about it. Conspiracy! Speaking of BP, that's a company that knows how to write some ads. Speaking of British Petroleum, how did England get so powerful? They're such a small country filled, I kid you not, with a lot of inbred people. I read it in National Geographic so it must be true. Apparently because they haven't experienced an influx in population for hundreds of years and the fact the island is somewhat remote people are accidentally imbreeding. Granted, I think this article was written before the Chunnel, so maybe having those Frenchies in there are making for "clean" babies but still. Speaking of "clean" babies and England, did you hear the Church of England called for all severely retarded babies to be killed? Not being terribly religious I don't think it should be mandatory but I think it's a viable solution for what do with a severely disabled child at birth. Ultimately the mother (or ideally parents) will have to care for the baby and she didn't bargain for a retarded one. If it's naturally retarded, I should say, she should have a choice. If she drank or smoked it into retardation she should have to keep it to be reminded of what she did to it though. Speaking of retardation, our newly elected Democrats have proposed a plan to pull out of Iraqi in 4-6 months. Believe me, I'm a card-carrying liberal who bleeds welfare and higher taxes, but you can't just take out the troops and make everything ok. Like it or not (or not) we're in there and we need to develop an exit strategy that doesn't involve the phrase "oh well" or "screw it". Speaking of screwing it, the Cubs resigned Kerry Wood for $1.75m yesterday. Talking about stupidly staying the course. CUT HIM. Give that money to Juan Pierre or someone who can actually play. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that he could have a healthy season but that is SO unlikely I wouldn't have paid for than $1.75 (notice the lack of the m) for him next season. Speaking of $1.75, I need to squeeze more money out of AdSense on here since I make about $1.75 a week. I was hoping to retire early on the vast profits I was going to produce but I don't think that's going to happen for less than two dollars a week unless I'm living in Uganda. Which I would never want to do. Speaking of Uganda, Jamie is going there again this summer. It will be my last time to watch Abby and that makes me sad. I guess there's always the chance I don't get into any graduate school and stay here another year and Abby would be a pretty good consolation prize. Speaking of not getting into grad school, I really need to finish my last piece. Speaking of finishing, this entry is over. Finally.
  • Google Declares War on Iran--drops Google Bomb

The Guardian - Google has provoked the wrath of Iran's notoriously suspicious authorities by appearing to question the country's sovereignty over the province of Azerbaijan in an entry on its Google Video website...
What's interesting about this article isn't that Google has declared war on Iran. It's this last section pertaining to Google bombing:
Web surfers launched "Google bombs", causing searches for "Arabian Gulf" to produce a site announcing: "The gulf you are looking for does not exist, try Persian Gulf."
That's not a Google bomb. A Google bomb changes the results. Having the bio of George Bush come up when you Google "failure" is a Google bomb. If you have to click on the result to get the joke then it's not a Google bomb. Sorry.
  • Wake Me Up

Jamie and I were able to get seats on the 30 yard line on the Home side for the game against Wake Forest. Awesome right? Sort of. Throw in driving rain and another 60 minutes of anemic offense and it lost a little of that...special something. FSU was shut out at home for the first time under Bobby Bowden and the first time since 1973. I was -6 when it last happened. As a Cubs fan I am ok with losing. I get to experience it every baseball season. However, FSU is supposed to win. It's a football school. It's football that gives the school enough money to spend on the arts. When FSU doesn't win everyone suffers. I know it's highly unlikely but if Western Michigan beats FSU (assuming a loss to UF) then we don't even go to a bowl game. And no bowl game means about $5m in lost revenue. Revenue that buys modeling clay and clarinets and dance leotards. So you better beat WMU!
  • ABC Sucks

I am so pissed off at ABC. Shall we count the reasons? Let's! 1) Cutting off Lost. This is simply unacceptable. You're lucky we're all addicted to it or else we'd never watch your stupid station again. 2) Cutting of Grey's Anatomy. Honestly, I might not watch the show again. You had me, but it's not good enough (unlike Lost) to stand a three month hiatus. Sorry, I've likely watched my last episode of Prime Time Grey's. You're not getting my ratings. 3) Making Desperate Housewives suck. Remember when the show used to be good? And people didn't mind the reruns so much? Since you're obviously more concerned about showing reruns than showing new programming, maybe you should make sure the episodes are totally horrible before playing them 18,000 times a month. How's that sound?
  • Grey's Anatomy Music: Season 3, Episode 7

Grey's Anatomy Music: Season 3, Episode 7 : Where the Boys Are Beck - I Think I'm in Love Jim Noir - Tell Me What To Do Luke Temple - Make Right With You Inara George - Greedy  Jealous Girlfriends - Something In The Water  Big Sandy & His Fly Rite Boys - It's Time Brett Dennon - There's So Much More Bedouin Soundclash - 12:59 Lullaby Bill Ricchini - A Cold Wind Will Blow Through Your Door  Man, that's a lot of music. Usually there are only four or five songs. Not this time.
  • Lost: Semi-Season Finale

Me: Oh yeah? Well I let my dogs out in the morning! Oh yeah? Well I keep my car filled with gas! Oh yeah? Well I take a shower every day (except on weekends but come on, cut me some slack). You: You're SUPPOSED to do those things! That's what being civilized is all about--I'm not going to give you credit for things you're supposed to do! ----- Lost: In February 16 NEW episodes! Lost: No Repeats! You're SUPPOSED to show new episodes without taking weeks off! You're not supposed to repeat episodes! You're taking 3 months off for nothing?!?!? And replacing the best show on TV with Black Groundhog's Day? Come on! Get a clue ABC, you finally have the best shows on TV and you're squandering your audience with these stupid new-show-promoting games.
  • All about Context

    Ok read this:
The back of Bush's head was damaged in the fall, "but he's been back on his feet for several days now," Taylor said.
That is indeed regarding George W. Bush. Man, this entry is going nowhere. This was originally going to be about the wax version of our president who gets beat up a lot but it's just not going to be funny so I'm going to stop this entry right now.
  • Grey's Music: Focus on Mat Kearney

Mat Kearney is one of the most often-featured musicians in the music of Grey's Anatomy. He has two websites, his main one and, like anyone in music right now, his Myspace one. He has recently released a new album which is available from his main website and is currently on tour in the Midwest. Mat has been featured on in the Grey's Anatomy music in all three seasons--the only artist from their extensive soundtrack to do so. You can hear the latest song featured on Grey's Anatomy through a Flash player on his main site (Where We Gonna Go From Here).
