iPhone App Magnet Set
Thursday, March 11, 2010 10:19 AM

I am really tempted to pickup a set of these iPhone app magnets. All 17 of the original apps for the iPhone are present. They are magnetic and they have a nice little embossed icon on each. A pretty unique gift idea for the iPhone freak in your life. The whole set is $12.99 which is pretty cheap for such a unique idea.

A-Box - Speaker Box Made from an Ammobox
Friday, March 05, 2010 8:58 AM

This is not so much a geek toy or geek gadget as it is a Gun Geek toy. It's the A-box a speaker box that is made from an ammobox. If you are into guns and like music this is the ultimate in portable iPod tuneage. This thing is made out of a real ammabox made from 1mm steel plate fortified from the inside with 6mm trespa. They have also thought about vibration when working with metal so they have insulated the inside to eliminate vibration and produce the best sound possible. It comes with a rechargeable battery and iPod hookups so you can connect your iPod and jam out. This portable speaker system sells in the UK for 350 euros, which is about $475.00 US. A little bit pricey but you are sure to be the only person on the block with one of these.

Vintage Industrial Pendant Light
Thursday, March 04, 2010 3:31 PM

I don't know about you but I definitely would feel more like Edison with this light lighting up the room. It's a vintage style industrial pendant light from Etsy, and I think they are very cool. Makes me want to rethink how I choose to light my house. They feature the "FatBoy" brass socket with a peddle switch. What makes this light is the 1910 "Squirrel Cage" light bulb that almost takes you back in time to the industrial revolution. These are sold by a someone on Etsy and for $75 which sounds like a lot to me. You can buy those "Fatboy" sockets online for about $10 bucks and the "Squirrel Cage"bulbs cost about $10 each. That plus a little wiring and faceplate to cover the hole you could be done for $30 - 40 bucks. Still thought the one on Etsy looks pretty nice and you don't have to do any wiring.

Polluted Glass - Drink to your Health
Wednesday, March 03, 2010 12:51 PM

This is a bit unusual it's a glass that is shaped like a 55 gallon drum featuring the hazard logo on the side. I don't know why I love unique glassware, but it's fun to have different receptacles to drink out of. Each glass is hand blown and made from strong lead-free borosilicate glass. Each box comes with two of these unique glasses. Available through Fred's online stores for $15 bucks.

BuckyBalls - Magnetic Toy, a great gift for the Anyone!
Monday, March 01, 2010 11:40 AM

BuckyBalls is a set of 216 rare earth magnets that allow you to make an unlimited set of shapes and designs. The magnets are much more powerful than you are use to playing with so it's very different than other magnets you maybe familiar with. I recently bought some from thinkgeek and they are awesome. I spent several hours playing with them trying to master some of the shapes and it's a lot of fun. I think my favorite shape is the hexagon because the shape is very stable and can be made into all kind of things, taken a apart and redesigned. buckyballs are $29 but I think they are worth it for a very unique toy. They make a great gift for the geek that has everything and they are sure in impress your friends.

Iron Man ARC Attachment for your T-Shirt
Friday, February 26, 2010 11:06 AM

I thought this was pretty funny for all you Iron Man Geeks out there. It's a Iron Man ARC that you can attach to your shirt so you can turn any T-shirt into a set of Iron Man Armor. Well not really it's just a plastic toy that lights up with what is most likely a low powered LED light inside. Why be all bent on thinking of things in terms of reality, that's no fun. Well in all seriousness if anyone was planning on being Iron Man for a costume party this might actually be a great inexpensive solution to replicating the Iron Man ARC. So there you go reality and fun working together in harmony.

Drivemocion - LED car sign
Tuesday, February 23, 2010 1:10 PM

I'm sure if you have been driving for longer that 10 minutes you have wanted to tell off the person behind you as they follow too closely. You know there have been times you have cut someone off and wanted to apologize for making them slam on their brakes. Road rage is something I think everyone deals with at some point but wouldn't it be nice to have a sign that can express your feelings with an expression or a short message. With the Drivemocion EX Series LED car sign you can let the person behind you know exactly how you feel. Whether or not you're telling them you're sorry or telling them to get off your bumper they will know what you're feeling. The LED sign has a remote so you can change the signs message with a push of a button. You have 16 messages to help express yourself including:

  • Help (for emergencies)
  • Sorry (when you accidentally cut someone off)
  • Back off (for tailgaters)
  • Slow down (it's not NASCAR, people!)
  • Thanks (to those who let you merge)
  • Goodbye (before you pull out your shotgun and go all road rage)
  • Have a nice day (if you're a nice person)
  • Numerous facial expressions to cover the gamut of road emotions

DIY iPad Papercraft
Monday, February 08, 2010 1:37 PM

Anything that Apple comes out with you can be sure there will be some kind of Lego or papercraft that is sure to follow featuring the new device. There has already been a Lego iPad so here is the DIY iPad papercraft. I don't know why but don't ask yourself why just go with the geek flow. I have made a couple papercrafts in my life and I think I just might print this one out for the purpose of establishing my geek status.

TNT Candle and Incense Holder
Wednesday, February 03, 2010 2:01 PM

The guys over at Meninos always have cool and interesting things for sale. There are usually only a handful of products but all of them are sure to be original as can be. I have written post about a lot of there products and this next one looks like it came out of a cartoon. The oversized bundle of TNT doubles as a candle holder and incense holder. I pretty unique idea, but I have to say I think you could made something like this for pretty cheap. They have not started to sell this product yet and so there is no price on it yet. Still though a pretty cool idea take a look.

Chocolate Kiss CD Holders
Monday, February 01, 2010 12:24 PM

I am always putting CDs and DVDs on my desk because I'm too lazy or just don't have anywhere to put them at the moment. These little handy chocolate kiss looking thinks let you place a CD on top for easy access and safe storage until you find somewhere to put it. I know it sounds a little trivial but I think these things are a great idea. These things are made out of Aluminum and come from one of those design type websites so you know you're about to get ripped off. So having said that these things cost about $18 each. I know sounds like a lot and it is for a small hunk of metal but that's the price you have to pay for novelty these days.

Nerdy Mittens for Those Cold Days on the Computer
Thursday, January 28, 2010 3:37 PM

Do you ever sit outside on a cold day and regret your decision while your fingers feel like they are about to freeze off while typing on your computer? Well now you can keep your fingers and hand warm in style with these Nerdy Mitten. Made from cashmere/merino wool these handmade and hand-embroidered gloves feature a nerd glasses smiley and on the other the word nerd just in case someone didn't get the first glove. However if you go to MouthyMitt's Etsy store you can request a color and faces or text to be featured on your warm gloves. You can get your own for $26.00 which is not a bad deal in my opinion.

Motz Tiny Wood FM Radio and iPod Speaker
Tuesday, January 26, 2010 3:12 PM

I think this thing is absolutely awesome. I fully functional FM radio in a tiny bundle, that you can even connect to your ipod and use it like a speaker. The on and off switch is on the back as well as an expanding antenna. The button on the front will skim for FM channels for you to listen. The power status light is cleverly hidden in the bottom left in one of the speak holes.  It is currently only available in Korea so if you want one you will have to stumble through Earlyshop.com to get one. Let's just hope that an American shop picks these up soon because I would love to get my hands on one.

Pi Shower Curtain - Math Geeks Rejoyce
Friday, January 15, 2010 2:32 PM

Pi is a mathematical constant that is non-repeating and non-terminating whose value is the ratio of any circle's circumference to its diameter in Euclidean space. So Pi goes on and on and on and it can tell you the circumference of a circle. I thought I was cool because I knew Pi to about 20 decimal places but this shower curtain can show you Pi to about 4,600 places. HAHA I bit more than I have memorized. Perhaps I should get this and study up every morning until I do. How is that for useless knowledge.

iPhone holder that looks like an iMac
Tuesday, January 12, 2010 12:56 PM

Okay this one is just for fun. It's an iPhone holder that looks like an imac. I am not sure that I would use it for I mean you could put in on your desk or mount it to your dash in your car but other than that it's pretty much useless. It's not really a dock though you can still plug your phone in when it's in the holder so there's that. Then there's the price tap at $30 bucks. I am not sure if i would spend my money on that but that's just me. Other than those concerns I think this iPhone holder is by far the most creative one I have seen. It's so cute, look at it, it's a tiny touch screen iMac. HAHA

Vizio Headphones Concept with LCDs on both ears!
Friday, January 08, 2010 11:46 AM

Well CES was this week and the internet is just teeming with gadgets and gizmos. There were all kinds of tablets and TVs and hand-held devices and all that is well and good. I however, want to talk about the Vizio headphones that have LCDs on each ear. Let me start by saying "how awesome is that?" I think it is the most impractical thing ever and not useful to the person using the headphones, but I want one like NOW. According to Gizmodo these headphones can display the album art as well a visualizers of the song playing. They are bluetooth so you don't have to worry about cords tripping you up.

Sounds cool but what good does it do you? You can't see the visualizer or the album art I guess it's just for the people around you. It's kind of like putting a TV in the headrest of the back seat of your car, only the people behind you can enjoy it. That and those things have to run your battery down pretty fast. Having said all that I still want one.
