Forest Gump Says

Wal-Mart wants to be your SEO firm.

Wal-Mart sister company Sam's club has teamed with Innuity to bring Search Engine Optimization to the masses. I discovered this disturbing news while reading an article by Scott Buresh of Medium Blue. I am not going to rehash all the gory details, but I do agree with his overall conclusion. What they are offering is a service that allows you to input your business data into a form that then goes to several "local" search engines like Yahoo local, Yellow pages, Google local and some others. So they are not truly competing with a real full blown SEO company.

Shocking as it may seem, it is both good and bad for the industry. Good because it does expose more people to the concept of SEO for their business. That is less advertising you have to do to educate the public. The bad is that they are not providing the full concept of Site Optimization and Organic Engine Ranking. Plus what company with a website that generates lots of business traffic wants to trust it to a company who brings them giant mega packs of granola bars and 5lb tubs of peanut butter. I would not.

I guess it was bound to happen... I remember when I learned that after you buy that five-pounder of peanut butter you can get a hair cut, a family portrait or a Big Mac, or you can apply for a second mortgage... This all happened the same night that I learned (the hard way!) that WalMart does not sell postage stamps. That was pretty much the last time I tried to make nice with WalMart. Now I just pretend it doesn't even exist. I mean, how can you be a super store and not sell postage stamps? Aren't they pretty much a staple?!

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I went all the way to Wal Mart knowing they were SURE to have stamps because they have EVERYTHING and ended up going all 2 minutes down the road  for nothing. I think Wal Mart should buy a third world country or something. They could turn it into a giant super center and   make an economy.
