5/19 - Not a Good Day for Writing
Wednesday, May 20, 2009 12:01 AM
It's been raining here the last few days and since my summer job is almost 100% outside, that means I didn't get to work or get paid. When the rain let up in the afternoon I returned to work and had at it until 8PM to make up for lost time. Couldn't write in the morning, worked late and came home exhausted. However, after a shower and bite to eat I managed to fit in an hour or so of work on my script. No fiction today but I'll live and just the fact that I wrote at all is enough to make me feel like I salvaged the day a bit. If you're an aspiring writer like me and one with a busy life and real job, I know it's hard but always try to fit it in, even just for a little bit. It'll help get you in the habit (or keep you in the habit) and make you feel a little better before you go to bed at night. I know I hate the feeling of going to sleep after a day without working towards my dream. Until next time, I'm Eric and I'm an unpublished fiction writer.

Been writing every day as much as possible. Started my summer job today but got off early because it was raining so I took the time to do some writing. I finished revising one short story and submitted it to Smokelong Quarterly an e-zine that doesn't pay but I'm coming off my high horse as far as that goes. I just want to be able to say I've been published somewhere at this point, maybe it'll help get me published elsewhere. Not that Smokelong is easy to get published in. After that I wrote a short short I thought of while working this morning. I went really well and I spent time and editing and revising it immediately and was again happy with so I sent it off to 365 Tomorrows. If you're in to scifi, you should check out http://www.365tomorrows.com/. They publish a new scifi short story under 600 words everyday. A good way to get a little fantasy fix in your day. Now back to that script. Well, maybe a snack first. Until next time, I'm Eric and I'm an unpublished fiction writer.

Posts too few and far between but today was one of my more ideal writing ideas, even if it was in the afternoon and not the morning. I worked on a short story, churned out a short short that I might not do anything with but it was fun and the more you write the better you get, then I set to work on a TV script. Fiction isn't my only aspiration and I've written a lot of scripts though none have been produced. This time I'm hoping to break into the industry an "easier" way (notice the quotes). That is, instead of writing a pilot (which every aspiring screen writer does and one in a million is produced because why buy a show from someone with no experience?) I'm writing for an existing TV show. Worth a shot. Gotta write it before I can worry about getting it out there though so step one, write. I've sketched out a plot and written some misc. scenes. Currently taking notes on previous episodes. It's a procedural so thats important. Hope to jump into the writing again tomorrow morning, which means, early to bed. Until next time, I'm Eric and I'm an unpublished fiction writer.
