We have a maltese that just had surgery because he swallowed a little ball that belongs to the kids. He couldn't eat or drink and they had to perform surgery to get it out. They kept him for 3 days for observation, they said his kidneys were starting to fail. Now, he is doing great. So glad Logan came home a healthier dog! I hope he will be ok.

That's such a creative and unusual way to propose. He definitely gets points for being so poetic. I have to dock him a few for proposing in public, though. I always felt it was so unfair to put a girl on the spot like that with a large audience. But that's just my opinion. I'm sure lots of girls love that kind of thing.

I'm not a huge fan of green tea ice cream myself. I really enjoy red bean ice cream though. I'm not sure how or why it tastes good, but strangely it's got a very sweet and delicious flavor. It is a bit off in the consistency though. It's a bit like eating frozen pinto beans.

To have all three bedrooms, the living room, dining room and family room cleaned professionally would cost right around $150. To do it ourselves with a rental would be back-breaking and cost probably $75 to $100.

Either way, with all the kids and critters it's going to need it again and again, so buying a machine seems smartest. Thanks for the info!

re: Snug as a Bug in a Clean Rug

I had a few criteria when shopping for a deep cleaning vacuum. (1) I wanted a known brand so that I could get the cleaning products at numerous stores and that they would be around for years in the future. (2) The machine had to have a decent-sized water tank that was easily emptied and re-filled. (3) I didn't want to spend more than $200 on it.

I found the BISSELL - ProHeat 2X Upright Deep Cleaner machine at Best Buy, regularly priced at $199.99, but I got it on sale for $179.99. I also buy the Bissell Tough Stain Precleaner which helped on some of the tougher spots. The best spot cleaner that I've found is hydrogen peroxide. Even after the deep cleaning vacuum, I still have a few spots left. I'm going to go after them with the hydrogen peroxide next.

We're in the middle of painting the living room right now, but planned to have a carpet cleaning service come in to the whole house when we're done.

This idea sounds better though. Will you both tell me, please, what kind of carpet cleaners you bought? Parker is yours a steam cleaner? Blogette, is there any reason I should know about NOT to get a steam cleaner?

Thanks you guys!

Thank goodness for managers.

I'm always afraid to send out for repairs now because I have had a REALLY Bad history with repair people. My parents took in a TV to get it fixed because it was all green, and the repair guys gave it back completely broken and said it was irreparable. A car repair shop fixed the electrical system of my old Eclipse only to blow out the transmission in the process. And my old laptop... oh man.

I used to have a $1,500 laptop which was a steal for its specs. There was a tiny spring that held the ram chips into the motherboard and due to a manufacturer's defect, it wore out. That tiny ten cent spring made a $1,500 laptop stop working. So since it was still under warranty I shipped it off to the manufacturers who said they would gladly fix it for free. About 2 months later, they shipped me back the shattered remains of my old laptop which had obviously been taken out of its box and deliberately smashed. They said it arrived there smashed by the shipping company, but they shipped it back in the same box, which was perfectly intact.

I really need it and it will take "a few days" to get the dent out of my bumper. I was hoping more so for having the bumper repaired or replaced while I wait. If I put my car in the shop for non-mechanical repair and I have to wait on it more than a few days, I will be so upset!

Most of the time, second sinks looked like they were put to good use, too--especially the ones that were installed in vanities and partnered with a mirror and good lighting.

The strangest commode only setup I saw was a "gardener's toilet" in a closet-like room off the mud room. Presumably you provide your gardener with some dignity while not actually allowing their muddy selves into your home. Of note, based on the tile and toilet, it looked like this .25 bath was an original feature of the home.

The most unusual stranded sink I saw was in a home with two regular full-fledged bathrooms. For some reason, one (but only one) of the bedrooms had a sink and medicine cabinet in it. I imagined it as a modern nod to some distant time when a guest room was furnished with a wash bowl and pitcher for travelers to "freshen up" in privacy.
