  • Rich text editor for ASP.Net

I'm sorry to say that the FreeTextBox has let me down. I usually create some kind of admin website that lets the customer maintain much of their own content. Most of my customers use IE, and IE does not have any problem with the ASP.Net HTML code that is generated. I have one customer, however, that uses a Mac. I don't even try to make the administration website work on Safari. Luckily, they are fine with using FireFox. I didn't think that was going to be a problem. Well, there was more than one problem. I often use repeater controls with a linkbutton to do a postback. Well, FireFox doesn't like these. It will do postbacks just fine with a normal button or link button control, but it won't do it from a linkbutton on a repeater. That wasn't a big deal. I was able to code around it. Then the next problem reared it's ugly head, and, boy, was it an ugly one. I use the tab control a lot, because you can get a lot of data in a small space. I also like using the FreeTextBox that enables the customer to edit their own website content and have the ability to add bold, unordered lists, etc. But you can't use the two of them together. I tried to put a FreeTextBox on a tab panel and it will not show the content. It works fine in IE, but not FireFox. I could not find any solutions to this problem when doing an internet search.

My solution was to replace the FreeTextBox with FCKeditor. It was not as easy to install as the FreeTextBox which has everything wrapped up in one dll. I had to install all of FCKeditor's code in a directory on my website and then add a dll to the bin folder. I did appreciate how easy it was to customize the toolbar so I was able to make it look just like the other editor and I am please to report that it works just fine on a tab panel when displayed in FireFox.

  • Another ASP.Net Blog Software Program

I have found another ASP.Net blogging software program that I like: BlogEngine.Net. It looks very much like dasBlog, but I've noticed it has additional features. One additional feature I like about BlogEngine.Net is that you can create additional pages, such as an "About Me", that you can create and have available on your menu. It also can import and export using BlogML, a must-have nowadays. BlogEngine.Net does not currently have as many themes as dasBlog, but the themes they do have use the standard master page and controls which for me is easier to edit.
