Starbucks Sponsors Green Coffee Cup Contest

Starbucks in their quest to become a more green company, as many large companies are trying to do, is sponsoring a green coffee cup contest. The contest is called "Betacup" and its goal is to come up with a biodegradable and reusable coffee cup, to reduce the amount of paper waste.

Starbucks already makes their coffee cup sleeves out or recycled materials, and offer discounts to customers that bring their own coffee cups. The winner of the Betacup contest will win $10,000 and and retain ownership of their design. Submissions are being received until June 15th.

There is no mention of the winning design being implemented at Starbucks or anywhere else. I hope that there will be companies that will adopt the new design but the contest will be all for not if no one uses it.
