Title: reparations
For the past ten years a hot button issue has been giving blacks reparations for slavery. Some say it’s a good idea and some say it isn’t. Now that America has given reparations to the Jewish survivors of the holocaust. Do you think that African American deserve reparations?
No, because there are no current survivors of slavery in this country today. With Holocaust victims, the reparations were given to living survivors.
Hey thrty2mars we talked about this yesterday, but your completly right. as an African American woman you'd think I would be for it, but I can't be. If their were living survivors from slavery then it would be diffrent, but there are no living survivors. Ancestors don't count...
Not that I agree with reperations, but what about those who would argue the fact that blacks start off economically behind their white counter parts because many different factors of slavery:
1. The fact that the smartest slaves who could read were killed.
2. The fact that blacks gave worked for free while tobacco companies became rich and past the money down to their children.
3. The Lack of economic unity between the black community because of the way black families and tribes were divided during slavery times.
Could you look at all these factors and say that slavery has had no effect on current blacks in America?
I personally don't believe that has any baring on reparations.
