Title: Is America extending themselves too much aiding Israel?
America seems to be spending alot of time in the middle east. We went to war in Iraq to liberate a people and hopefully get cheaper oil prices which proved to be a fallacy as crued oil prices have reach record heights at 77 dollars a barrel in recent weeks. Now we are aiding Israel and considering the possibility of bombing Iran and Syria. My question is for what? What are we hoping to accomplish when these people have been fighting for 100s of years.
The United States never went into Iraq for lower oil prices. Iraq has the second largest supply of crude oil in the world and obviously the prices aren't any lower... Oil prices weren't that high to begin with when we first went into Iraq.
With Israel, I agree that we have little to no resources to provide them,
but we have to be there. Israel is one of our only allies in the Middle East and certainly the largest. If they need our help, we unfortunately must come to their aid. When Iraq becomes a stronger, more independent nation in the Middle East, the United States will have two strong players in the politics of the region. We have to tough out the short run in order to strengthen ties in the long run. The Middle East remains a central terrorist safe haven, especially with countries like Syria. If we had more allies in the region, we could put much stronger diplomatic and forceful pressure to push the terrorist factions out for good. The Taliban has already been shooting themselves in the feet (so to speak) by consistently bombing holy Muslim targets across the Middle East including Egypt, known for their distrust of American foreign policy. The more they alienate the only group that still harbors them, the easier it will be to eradicate these vermin.
