Title: Difficult Question
Consciousness has been studied through out history. From the times of the Buddhist Abhidharma, Aristóteles with his concept of “nous”, in the reflections of Plotino, in Saint Agustin with his concept of “memory”, or in Saint John with this concept of the “deep caverns of the senses”.
In spite of the affluence of terms about the meaning of consciousness, something is difficult to explain about it. People know what it is but they can’t explain it.
What are the causal factors that bring about consciousness?
A very difficult question in deed.
With our mental avenues we build road maps based on science but maybe the explanation for consciousness is something we can’t conceive of yet. Something that although not spiritual or dualistic it needs a different type of explanation. Our classifications of phenomena might be too rigid.
