Some goats work as drug factories. Transgenic goats secrete a valuable pharmaceutical protein in its milk. The company behind the research is GTS Biotherapeutics which received European approval of an anti clotting drug produced in goats. One of the method employed to obtain a gene for therapeutic protein is a microinjection, which introduces a gene directly in to and embryo when the goats matures, lactation is induced an some of the goats produce substantial amounts of the drug protein in the milk. This is a recent new method that is bringing great results in the pharmaceutical research field.
