Title: NASA's Extreme Environment Mission Operations

NASA's Extreme Environment Mission Operations or NEEMO, is an ongoing experiment in an underwater laboratory off the Florida Keys. The name of the laboratory is Aquarius, and it is currently the site for NEEMO 10. These experiments are being conducted between July 22-28 and are testing extravehicular mobility on the lunar and Mars surfaces. They will also be experimenting with new techniques for communication, navigation and the use of robots for future Mars missions. In the past, NEEMO experiments have been conducted to determine astronauts' ability to deal with medical complications while on a mission. During an extended flight to Mars, there will be no option for turning around and coming home due to injury or sickness. Instead, astronauts will have to deal with these emergencies as they arise with the help of doctors here on Earth. The six person crew of NEEMO 10 includes two engineers from the University of North Carolina, and is lead by Koichi Wakata from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.

I don't get it. What in the world are these scientist looking for. Why poor billions into space programs that keep moving a inch at a time. Instead they should pour some of that money into education and help the next genius figure out how to use zero point energy, or quantum warp drives so we can take one giant step and go beyond this solar system and explore the other solar systems. After all earth is nothing more than the 3rd planet from the sun in a lost galaxy drifting further and further away from the center of the ever expanding galaxy.

Well we pour the money into the space program because Americans, and humans in general, are driven by a desire to explore and discover the uncharted territories of this universe. I agree with you that we need to spend more money on education... but what you said makes no sense. We already have some of the smartest people in the world working on our space program, so why would we put all of the money into education just to find some more smart scientists? We already have the right people for the job, but we lack the experience in the technology at this moment. Don't worry; they are always researching new propulsion systems.

Maybe they should use some of those smart scientist to work on problems here on earth. Or maybe they should figure how to fix the ozone layer instead of trying to go to mars for 3 years.

You can't force people to do things they don't want to do. If the smart scientists would rather find a way off this planet, you probably won't be able to stop them. They have a strong sense of adventure and exploration.

Of course you can force people to do what they don't want to do. Offer them enough money and their sense of adventure becomes a paid interest. How are they gonna find a way off the planet with no funding and no research.

They will find someone who shares their sense of exploration but also has large sums of money. There are lots of rich men who are bored and have nothing to spend their money on.
